A record high 15 percent of U.S. households lacked consistent access to adequate food according to a US Census Bureau report on C-Span this week. Some relevant data for Valley County:
- Food insecurity was particularly high for single mothers with children;
- As the chart below shows: there is a high correlation with unemployment (which is one of our problems in Valley County, especially in the off-season).
One demographic is not accounted for in this report: many Valley County households hunt to stock their freezers with game and share their excess with families in need. A big thanks goes out to them!
