Taxable sales over September and October 2012 were not exactly stellar. Interestingly: based on the reported sales to the Idaho Tax Commission (both taxed and non-taxed), the sales from November 2011 through October 2012 is still up 11% from the previous 12 months – figure 2. So what happened?
A closer look at the sector sales in September and October shows that the restaurant sales dropped from $5 million in Sep/Oct 2010 to only $3 million in Sep/Oct 2012. Since restaurant sales is all taxable sales, it almost single-handedly accounts for the unexpected decline in those months.
